the S family visit

We had so much fun with our friends who stopped to visit us on their way to Colorado. They stayed 2 nights ~ I tried really really hard to get them to stay another full day and night, but my efforts (begging, pleading, threatening, teasing, cajoling……you name it, I tried it) were fruitless.
They arrived around 12:30am Thursday. We visited for about 2 hours, then headed off to bed. I was surprised they were able to stay awake that long ~ they had just driven almost 15 hours from North Carolina!

Yesterday (Thursday) we had a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and biscuits prepared by Roger. He loves to cook big egg and bacon breakfasts, so when Miss Wynnie said she wanted eggs and bacon for breakfast, Roger was all over it!

We hung out at my house most of the day ~ Wyn and Jerz discovered my immense stash of scrapbooking supplies and had themselves one hey-day of a time creating little scrapbooks and folders to hold their art work. I wish I had thought to take pictures of their creations ~ I’ll have to ask their mom to do that for me.

Cheri (pronounced cherry, like the fruit) and I spent some time going through the candles I still have left to sell (get rid of, whatever). She picked out a couple she really liked and took them with her (as a gift, of course!). Then we went through my piles and piles of clothes I’m supposed to prepare to take to the base thrift shop. Cheri has managed to lose a significant amount of weight over the past year or so, and I have somehow managed to find a good number of those pounds she has lost! So, we went through all of the clothes that no longer fit me to see if we could find some that would fit her. Cheri’s legs are significantly longer than mine (not too hard to do), so pants/jeans/sweats weren’t an option. We did, however, find quite a few lovely jackets, sweaters, blouses and shirts that looked great on her. Since they’re on their way to an assignment in Germany at the end of the month, the sweaters, fleece, and jackets we found will be put to good use. I’m not quite sure how she’s going to manage to get all of those new-to-her clothes over to Germany, but she’ll figure something out.

Roger didn’t have to be to work until yesterday afternoon. A while after he left, the rest of us piled into the Suburban and drove to Patrick’s school. We signed Patrick out and went to Chili’s for dinner. It was yummy, and we always have fun when we go out to eat together.

After we got back to my house the kids did a few more art projects, Roger came home from work, and we watched the Avalanche beat the Penguins (Brian and Cheri are from Colorado, so they’re Avalanche fans, too. Actually ~ long story short ~ we introduced them to hockey more than 10 years ago, and they became fans). We opened a bottle of wine I had tucked away for a special occasion ~ North Carolina wine, of all things. I don’t know WHY I didn’t think to ask Brian and Cheri to bring me a case of wine from the Duplin Winery, since they lived in North Carolina, but I didn’t. Anyway, the wine was lovely, and we had a wonderful time just sitting in the living room talking.

I did everything within my power ~ short of taking the spark plugs out of their car or slashing their tires ~ to get them to stay another day, but alas, they’re feeling the pressure of “too many places to go and too many people to see in too little time” crunch. So, here they are, all loaded up and ready to head out:

(Are those two kids destined to be heartbreakers or what?! I think Brian may have to start carrying a shotgun around in a few years to fend off the young men who are interested in little Miss Wyn. And Jerz? Well, all I can say is watch out world ~ he’ll be breaking young girls’ hearts left and right!)

We laughed about how top-heavy their car is with the dog kennel and car carrier thing on top ~ they look like the family from National Lampoon’s Vacation ~ the Grizwalds~ traveling across the country!

Sawyer had a great time teaching Jerz how to play Halo3 (Brian got in on the action, too), and giving Miss Wyn rides on his shoulders.

We have missed having Brian, Cheri, Miss Wyn and Jerz around ~ it was fun to have them visit. I wish our time together had been longer ~ we really love them. They invited us to come to Germany while they’re stationed there. I’ll have to work on Roger about that one.

Catching up with you…I can’t believe that is Sawyer!

You know Billings is around halfway to AK…why didn’t you come all the way?

We are still planning to come in May, I hope there’s room. Seriously, we are considering a motor home to travel in. We need to go to Okla. and bury Grand’pa and we will probably have to see my parents (sigh).

    Nice blog, babe.

    Peace to all
